Admissions Process

Welcome to the RISS Admissions Office. It all starts here!

Thank you for your interest in Rotterdam International Secondary School. At RISS, we are a values-driven international school and are eager to aid in the development of confident, ethically responsible and innovative global citizens. We welcome you to our international community of Rotterdam and the surrounding areas and aim to bring together parents, students and staff as a comprehensive team to reach all future goals, academic and otherwise.

Below, you will find essential information about our admission process.

If your child meets the eligibility criteria, you are welcome to begin an application through our OpenApply system after carefully reading the information on this page.

RISS does not charge an admissions fee until the student has been accepted and started attending school.

After completing the application on our admissions portal, OpenApply, we will review your submissions and reach out to you to invite you and your child(ren) to either an online Google Meet or an in-person meeting. During this meeting, we will have a personal conversation with you and explain more about the school, our offer and processes. This conversation is primarily for you to get to know us, ask all your questions and for us to get to know the family we might get to welcome into our community.

Step-by-step application:

Step 1 Visit OpenApply to start the application process*
Step 2 Fill in the requested information about you and your child(ren)
Step 3 Submit your application
From now on, the Admissions Team can view your application and all completed tasks. We're happy to guide you through the process if you need assistance.
Step 4 Upload all required documents in the checklist
Step 5 Use the checklist in OpenApply as your guide for completing any remaining steps in the application

* The Admissions Team will begin reviewing your application only after all required documents have been submitted. Once the review begins, we will contact you with the next steps in the process, which include an interview meeting with the Head of Years, attended by you and your child(ren)

SCHOOL YEAR 2025-2026:

  • For Foundation Years (Grades 6-8) we are accepting applications.
  • For Middle Years (Grade 9-10) we are accepting applications.
  • For Senior Years (Grade 11-12) we are accepting application for both the DP  and CP programmes.

Please note:

  • RISS offers a Learning Diversity Programme, with availability dependent on students entering or leaving the programme.
  • Submitting an application does not guarantee a placement at RISS. We can only offer a seat once the admissions process has been completed, including the admissions interview with the Head of Years.

Applying to Grades 10 and 12 (IGCSE & IBDP/IBCP programmes):
We can only accept students into Grades 10 and 12 if they have previously studied the IGCSE or IBDP/CP programme, and their subject package aligns with our offerings. If this applies to your child,  please provide details of their current subjects and syllabus codes (IGCSE), or their progress in CAS, EE and TOK (for IBDP) during the application process, so we can assess the possibility of a transfer.

If you would like to know more or if you would like to make an appointment to visit our school, please contact our Admissions Team. Our office, both in person and online, is open to you for visits, messages, questions and comments. You can contact us for more information at: admissions.riss@wolfert.nl.
