Foundation Course
IMYC
The International Middle Years Curriculum is a challenging, engaging, internationally-minded, concept-focused curriculum designed specifically for the unique learning needs of 11-14 year olds.
Students of this age group need help to:
- Organize their thinking.
- Make sense of who they are, find relevance for what they are doing and to make decisions for themselves. But, they require support to achieve these needs.
- Take action, by doing this they are willing to face significant risks in order to achieve goals.
- They crave their peers as a result of the transition in their brains and bodies from child to adult, and need them to feel secure about their future.
- Students need empathy, advocacy, support and structure in order to become able, independent and interdependent individuals.
Every six weeks is focused on a guiding “Big Idea” which is related to a theme.
The IMYC helps students to make meaning of their learning through a learning process which provides a structured approach to help students become deep, engaged, active learners.
