This past week, RISS students from 10th grade participated in another Erasmus+ module, this time in the central Denmark town of Ikast. RISS students joined others from Denmark, Cyprus, Italy and Germany.

We were hosted at the lovely Ikast-Brande Gymnasium, a public IB school for grades 10-12. A unique thing about Ikast-Brande is that it is also a boarding school that welcomes, for free, students from all over Europe, among whom are refugees from conflicts in the Middle East and Africa. It is a calm, happy school where students are given a lot of independence but also the standards are quite high. It’s the Danish way, we’re told and the results are impressive!

Continuing with the over-arching theme of our current project, Postfactuel Europe, the students explored dystopian literature and produced videos roughly based on a short story by Margaret Atwood. Divided into multi-national groups of 5, the students got a chance to film their scary vision of the future in deserted German bunkers and the sand dunes of Western Denmark. Our students did a great job, especially in their warm-up dramatization of Cinderella where at the end, the obliging fairy godmother murders the wicked step-sisters for a truly happy finale!

We have two more modules left in this project, and soon 11th graders will be recruited for our next module on propaganda.
