Foundation Years: Update and Induction Week programme

Dear Foundation Years Parents and Students,

I would like to extend a warm welcome to you and your child for the new school year of 2020/2021, and especially to all our Grade 6 students and new students in Grade 7 and 8.

We hope that you all had a lovely and restful summer holiday and are looking forward to this upcoming school year.

If your child is new to our school, we understand that they might feel nervous and unsure. Our tutors will do their best to make them feel comfortable and at home at the RISS.  We understand that every child’s transition to a new school and new country is different, and we take great care to support our students throughout this process and any possible support that they might need.

Throughout the next few weeks you will receive information from your child’s tutor and also via the weekly Bulletin.  You are also welcome to email your child’s tutor if you have any other questions regarding the school etc.

This year we will have an induction week during the first week of school before lessons start and on Wednesday 2 September each grade will go on a day trip.  We are currently preparing for the day trips and will need some information from you.  Basic information for each trip is shared below.  Please read the information regarding your child’s trip carefully.  We are also sharing information regarding the programme for Thursday 3 September and Friday 4 September.

I would also like to introduce you to my colleague Ms O’Keefe, who will be working alongside me from the beginning of this school year, as she will stand in for me from the end of September until the beginning of March, as I will be on maternity leave during this period of time.

Again, we wish you all the best for this coming year.
Kind regards,
Marietjie Swart
Head of Foundation Years
