Global Young Leaders Workshops

The Global Young Leaders Foundation, part of the Global Experts Foundation hosted workshops with our Grade 12 students about approaching decision-making while considering their past experiences, individual needs and other real-world experiences. The Decision Growth Workshops took place on 5 and 6 September in our Flex Room in the Senior Campus.

The goal was to support our Grade 12 students with tools and approaches to reflect and gain insight into underlying elements that play a role and influence how decisions are made. Our grade 12 students are at the brink of major life changes, and through these workshops, we aimed to support them in helping create a framework within which they could approach decision making in their lives, and help create a thoughtful approach to both a personal and professional life path. The workshops took place in three sessions, and were interactive, and directed by students, focusing on discussion, sharing and learning from one another. The idea was to use the student's exiting personal approach and toolbox to help them in goal setting, goal maintenance the self-motivation. An important aspect that was covered was the effect of one's mindset on making decisions.

From Christiaan Caanen, Project Leader at Global Young Leaders:

We took the time to share, reflect, and learn from each other's life experiences and approaches. We discovered that even though our experiences have different contexts we face similar challenges. One participant mentioned, "One key realization was that experiences and feelings about situations which I considered hard to explain or express, turned out to be very relatable to other young people.

Another mentioned that "I learned that it is very easy to connect to strangers and to open up to one another when everyone has the desire and drive to be honest and help themselves, which in the process helps others too.”

Taking the opportunity to talk about these challenges in an intimate environment of your peers can create an experience that is motivating, inspiring, and valuable.
