Dear School Community

I hope it is all well with you all. We had a successful start of the year with a new induction week programme that enabled teachers and students to reconnect and build up a working relationship for the year ahead, namely, a more relaxed, joyful atmosphere with the confidence that we are all in this together. From now on, this is how we will operate for the beginning of each year. Please see our Instagram page to have a look at what we were up to!

The Mobile phone policy is in operation and I must say I am thankful! Our students’ responsiveness, understanding and maturity has to be commended. They see the need and they have read our policy. We are all very proud of them! We will continue with its implementation and growth.

The above leads me to our RISS Handbook. We shared a hard copy with you all, but remember things change and our updated version is always the one online (this is indicated on page 5 of the handbook).

Remember that the message from the central government is that all students need to come to school. The only reason for them not to come to school is illness (or any other serious personal circumstances), especially those linked to COVID-19. Asynchronous and remote learning is reserved for this scenario. Not complying with attendance and lateness, will lead us to inform Leerplicht as expected. In this regard, our hands are tied. I hope you understand.

The Bulletins are fundamental in terms of school-home communication and it will be the form of connection for key information from school to home. It is important to read them, which I trust you will allocate the time as it is about our children’s education, which is  something we all value.

I would like to remind you of our promotion criteria for  2020-2021 in our school handbook (Pages 46 to 48). It is important that you become acquainted with it, especially for our Grade 9 (going into 10) students. Questions to our Heads of Section/Deputy Principal.

Finally, as a school we must adhere to the regulations of the GGD and its protocols for action related to COVID-19. The norms and regulations are thorough, based on sound medical advice and supported by different bodies to ensure all schools continue to offer education. GGD’s  protocols are constantly being updated and the RISS Leadership Team is constantly monitoring demands from its local authorities, believe me at all hours!

Thank you for your kind attention, have a wonderful week.
